01Contribution

I led a UI redesign for a mobile app, working closely with my superior. We designed captivating experiences for new features and I handled all graphic design tasks, such as banners, flyers, and social media posts. Additionally, I rectified engineering mistakes, ensuring a flawless user experience.

02Overview

Agent banking has become prevalent in Nigeria, addressing the accessibility gap left by banks and ATMs. With banks primarily located in commercial areas, agent bankers provide convenient services in residential areas, catering to small withdrawals. ATMs are unreliable due to power and network issues, whereas agents ensure reliable cash access.

Agent banking faces challenges regarding cash availability, as agents may need to visit banks during the day, impacting customer service. Carrying substantial amounts of cash at the end of the day raises safety concerns during their commute. Banks also experience overcrowding as agents gather for various purposes. These issues emphasize the importance of enhancing the agent banking system to ensure smoother operations and safety measures for agents and customers alike.

03Challenges

Cash hoarding at the end of the day is insecure and time-consuming. Agents face difficulties replenishing cash, causing disorder at banks. Registered as micro-finance banks or startups, agent banking providers lack the resources to handle multiple issues effectively.

05Ideas Tested

In the previous app version, key features were missing. Our approach prioritized addressing product issues before visual design. We conducted testing using the old design to focus on functionality and usability problem-solving. Once resolved, we proceeded with visual design enhancements.

Some of the Ideas We Tested

01

Adding New Stakeholders

New stakeholders promote decentralization and division of labour, reducing clutter and enhancing efficiency. A larger workforce dedicated to specific tasks speeds up issue resolution, problem-solving, and operations.

02

Introducing Marketers

Marketers recruit new agents to minimize activity and acquisition costs. They engage potential agents, guide onboarding, and share service knowledge, expanding the network by effectively communicating benefits, simplifying recruitment, and saving time and resources.

03

Introducing Sub-Agents

Sub-agents facilitate ATM transactions as intermediaries, reducing reliance on banks and ATMs. They enhance efficiency, improve accessibility to financial services, and promptly resolve customer concerns for timely resolution.

04

Role Change for Agents

Agents become account managers for sub-agents, overseeing activities, providing cash services, resolving issues, and facilitating communication with banks. They ensure smooth operations, registration, and prompt issue resolution for sub-agents.

06Paper Sketches

Thorough research led to rapid sketches, narrowing down possibilities and facilitating quick brainstorming for desired interaction and user experience. Streamlining the design process ensured efficient ideation and user satisfaction.

07Design Iterations

Initial sketches and mockups fell short of desired visual appeal, leading to a redesign process. Incorporating promising elements and introducing fresh design elements aimed to enhance visual appeal and achieve a captivating outcome.

08Final Screens

In the final UI, several noteworthy fixes have been implemented to enhance the overall user experience. These include;

  1. The integration of charts and graphs, enabling users to access transactional data quickly and effortlessly.
  2. Additionally, the subscriber interface has undergone a visual revamp, resulting in a more appealing and intuitive design.
  3. Furthermore, the introduction of a uniform style guide ensures consistency and coherence throughout the entire user interface, providing a seamless and unified visual experience.

These improvements collectively contribute to a more user-friendly and visually engaging UI.

11What I Learnt

During my tenure at Lavender Microfinance Bank, I had the unique responsibility of being the sole designer on the team. Despite this, I successfully collaborated with various stakeholders to accomplish our design objectives.

It was an exhilarating and memorable experience, albeit demanding. It was during this period that I gained a profound appreciation for the significance of feedback in my design process. By actively seeking and incorporating feedback from colleagues and customers, I was able to refine and enhance my designs, ensuring they met the desired goals and requirements. Additionally, I played a crucial role in devising strategies for the relaunch of the bank in the vibrant city of Abeokuta, contributing to the overall success of the project.
